I haven’t written one of these in a long time. But, this week, Colleen’s #TankaTuesday is turning 5 years old. Happy Birthday, Tanka Tuesday! 🥳 I wanted to celebrate by participating. (Sorry, Colleen. I’m a bit rusty.)

The theme is autumn’s ‘harvest moon’.

Singing to the stars

Dancing on rays of moonlight

Falling to the earth

Waking from whimsical dreams

Entering daily nightmares

The Usual Haunts #Tanka

 

I thought my spirit

would glide gracefully amongst

the living. Alas…

I find I’m a clumsy ghost

Can’t earn my haunting license

Snowflakes drifting down

Nestling between pine needles

Sugar-coated berries charm

I’ve taken on another of Colleen’s Tanka Tuesday challenge. This week’s challenge is to write a Tanka poem (5/7/5/7/7) with the words ‘charm’ & ‘touch’ in it. (I didn’t cheat. 🙂 You can use synonyms and, in this case, I used “nestle” in place of “touch”.)

 

 

Changes

 

The death of nature

Brings such beauty to our world

Earth regenerates

Leaves change, decorate Autumn

Give way to Winter’s frosting

Heated

 

Sprinkling bits of earth

Mahogany coffin gleams

Sunlight contemplates

My heated cheeks, icy eyes

Let his spirit find no peace

Lover’s Waltz

 

We danced in moonlight

Amber autumn leaves twirling

Cool breezes rush in

Laughter fades as we see loss

In time, winter takes our dance

Green Fairy

 

The Green Fairy waits

Crystal glitters with absinthe

Pure liquid magic

Inspires art, frees the mind

Tethered to this life no more

Hope

 

Hope fading with life,

sinking below dark tree line.

Late autumn sunset.

Waiting for sunrise, I see

hope arrives with Harvest Moon.
