I feel them crawl over my skin before I see them.
Looking up, I notice hundreds of insects skitter across my floor, up the walls. They are everywhere. I want to scream. To call for help. But I don’t.
I study one on my left arm and become entranced with its bright, colored spots and antennae.
I have a memory of school where I learned about this species. The common name, ‘longhorn beetle’, fits well as the antennae extend past the end of their bodies. It’s fascinating. I lean in for a closer look but see only my bare arm.

Okay… These are not the comments I was expecting for this flash! 😀 It’s kind of funny. But thank you.

What an amazing beetle. So colourful. I love our insect life. Well, most of it. What a great take on the prompt.

I understand insects have their place in nature and we need them but I’d love if they stayed outdoors. *shudders* (Kind of is a cool beetle but…still…insect. Eew.) 😉

I was thinking of ‘attacking’ the beetle for my flash too. But you’ve done it so well, how could I even try! I might have to blow my horn a different way. (I’d already decided to not do the beetle when I read yours, but was very impressed.)

You’ve managed to fascinate me and make me check my arm for bugs!

That’s more the reaction I was expecting. 😉 Thanks, Barbara.

You managed to pull off an unexpected longhorn twist, and I could feel my own skin shuddering. The idea of where she is compared to memory of school deepens the story. Great take on the prompt!

Yes, this makes my skin crawl, too. Gah! It was the only thing I could find for this prompt that I could work with. Looking forward to seeing what others have chosen. Thanks! 🙂

It’s one of those oddball prompts that actually gets good results! I appreciate it when writers go out of their comfort zone.
